AAI’s Training Systems business unit has developed an Aerosonde® system trainer that delivers air vehicle operator and mission payload operator individual and crew skills, and fully supports sustainment training.
The trainer incorporates instructor operator stations (IOS) that allow selection of terrain databases, weather, wind, atmospheric conditions and time of day, as well as computer-generated forces with realistic behavioral scenarios to support unmanned aircraft system mission operations. From the IOS, physics-based malfunctions and emergencies can be inserted, either on a pre-planned or spontaneous basis, and withdrawn. The trainer also has after-action review and performance assessment functions.
The Aerosonde trainer is fully transportable for use in remote or deployed locations, and also can be utilized in fixed school locations. It utilizes commercial, off-the-shelf computers for ease of logistics support.
